  • Second Convention Description

    Published June 12th, 2007

Here is the expanded description of this summer’s Second Convention currently making its way through the Second Life trade papers…

The convention starts off with flair on Thursday June 14th 2007 at 3:00pm PDT with Ebenezer Pixel’s Pixel Sumo bouts, where anyone can compete for prizes and glory. Contestants line up facing each other on an elevated dohyo platform, and wait for the signal to begin, then they stand and fight each other, first to fall from the platform either by being pushed off or falling off loses.

The second act of the day begins at 5:00pm PDT, with the Slebrity roasting of Wildefire Walcott. Widlefire is of the Succubus Land Group and owner of the Desperation Isle sim, a BDSM themed sim home to Desperation Isle mall and adult playground, and the residential sim Desperation West. A boisterous voice in the BDSM community, there is certainly plenty of fun to be had at her roasting.

The first day of the convention closes with something the event organizers are certainly looking forward too, as it is a welcome reprieve from all the work that goes into the convention. This is of course, the after party, taking place on Artificial Isle’s tripod beach and with DJ by Vivianne Draper.

The second day of the convention promises to be one of the more interesting days by far. For Second Convention, Friday June 15th 2007 starts off at 3:00pm PDT with a discussion panel on online censorship, not just in Second Life but across the internet, touching on happenings at Digg, Live Jornal, Myspace, and of course the recent actions taken in Second Life. There will of course be a Q&A for the audience at the end of the panel.

Friday continues on into 5:00pm PDT with the Variations fashion show, presented by the Atlantis Modeling agency. Organized and run by Valerie McDunnough, who has done shows across Second Life, including a Summer Fashion show earlier in the same week; her plate is overflowing with work. This promises to be a professional event to introduce the audience to some of what’s coming for this season.

Finally at 7:00pm PDT, Second Convention will play host to a lecture on Security in Second Life from the perspective of land owners. The lecture is being given by Kalel Venkman of the JLU group, and he’ll be focusing on the current state of griefing and anti-griefing elements on the Second Life grid. Kalel will speak of steps Linden Lab has taken with their Abuse Report system, and steps private citizens have taken with systems like Travis Lamberts Banlink.

The last day of the convention starts off with a bang, on Saturday June 16th 2007 at 3:00pm PDT featuring the official Second Convention Fashion Show, as run by Caliah Lyon. Showcasing women’s and mens fashion alike, and with much of the items on sale throughout the convention grounds, it’s a great way to find a new designer you might like. The show features nearly twenty designers in all, including the works of Simone, Canimals, and Truth and Calico…

Second Convention begins to wind down with a Live Music event organized by Fenix Harbinger at 5:00pm PDT, Rock out with guitarist Elmo Balderdash from 5:00pm – 5:45pm, followed by the ballads and oldies of Padishar Frobozz from heard from 5:45pm – 6:30pm.

Finally the convention comes to a close with the Second Convention closing ceremonies, a thank you from the event organizers to participants, and visitors. Various goodies will be hidden throughout the island for a freebie scavenger hunt.

The convention grounds will remain open for seven days after the close of Second Convention, to allow any stragglers who missed the show to come by, see the grounds, and peruse the vendors still on display. Be sure to hunt for the various freebie items hidden throughout the area.
