For convenience, provided below is a copy of the Artificial Isle estate covenant. You can see the covenant at any time while in the Ai estate by pulling up the About Land menu and going to the Covenant tab. If you’re a tenant, be sure to refer to your lease agreement for more specific terms not covered below, as the covenant is more about broad coverage and guidelines. If you have any questions about the covenant please contact us.

    ————————————————————
    www.artificialisle.com

This covenant covers general principles and guidelines for visiting the Artificial Isle estate (Please see the lease terms for tenancy matters), a collection a several sims in the southern hemisphere of the United Sailing Sims adjacent to the Blake Sea. By visiting and/or using the resources of the Artificial Isle estate you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions for matters that concern the resources of the Artificial Isle estate. The ideas laid out in this document are not set in stone, but are rough guidelines that the management will interpret and follow at their discretion, ultimately final say lies with the word of the management. If you have any questions that are not covered by this document, or a more specific set of rules (Like the lease terms offered in the auto-lease units for tenants) please feel free to contact the management directly.

❖ Visiting The Artificial Isle Estate

The Artificial Isle estate is open to the public at large, but please keep in mind some common sense guidelines when visiting. Estate staff may make “judgment calls” that are outside the scope of this document but it is a good benchmark to follow.

    ➥ Guidelines For Visitors

Guests are asked to treat each other with cordial behavior while on the estate, this is not a place for fisticuffs. Similarly, it is asked that visitors refrain from exemplifying lewd or otherwise explicitly adult behavior in public. Shadowing, stalking, or otherwise following around unwilling individuals is similarly frowned upon and may warrant a warning or more forceful moves by management if the behavior does not change. Often there are large scale events taking place on the isle, during such time please observe and follow the requests of those running the event as they try to best manage the matter for everyone’s convenience.

Vehicles of various sorts (Boats, planes, automobiles & etc) are allowed on the property provided they do not impede the progress of others by their physical location, size or the lag they contribute to the sim (There are several Rez Zones around the estate where one can rez their vehicle). Mooring or otherwise parking for a short time is acceptable as long as it is a simple enough manner for others to navigate around one’s craft (And one does not moor in the middle of an ongoing event). Consensual vehicular combat (In small groups) outside of regular events is also permitted under similar restrictions.

Furthermore, soliciting and/or panhandling, particularly when unwanted is forbidden in Artificial Isle outside of authorized exemptions at officially events sanctioned by the management where individuals and groups may make an effort to deliver their message and may solicit for tips or donations for their cause. Similarly harassment of individuals or groups on the Ai estate will not be tolerated.

    ➥ Performance Matter

Excessive prims, special effects, or too many people can lead to unacceptable performance degradation. As such Isles staff may request visitors to change their attire, vehicles, or even adjust the amount of people allowed in a region at once. Please understand that this is done so that the experience can be at as high a level of quality as possible for everyone and don’t take it personally if you’re contacted or acted upon in relation to a performance issue and your avatar or prims you’re using.

    ➥ Privacy & Security

Obviously attacking others or otherwise impeding unwilling bystanders from going about their business, or hampering access to the sim may very well get one banned from the estate. And please understand that no organizations or individuals other that those listed in the contact section of this document have any official authority over the Artificial Isle estates. If you find yourself being harassed by a “Grid Cop” on the Ai properties please inform management of the encounter; describing what happened and if possible providing a transcription of the conversation.

The Artificial Isle estate makes use of the BanLink system (http://www.slbanlink.com) and other sensor devices. Ai does take a few proactive security steps, and generally trusts the bans of neighbor estates within the USS. If you feel you or a friend was banned in error please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’ll do our best to sort out the issue as quickly as possible. Also by visiting Artificial Isle you consent to the collection of some information about your visit being stored, mainly the information we keep track of is how many people visit in a day, where and how long. This information is used to track the success of various areas and any personally identifiable information is not shared outside of estate staff and event organizers (And then only information from the time of said event). Overall statistics for the estate may be publically shared, but such information will be presented in a generalized fashion, for example a statement that there were 8,152 visits in January of 2009. Additionally you consent to photographs/screenshots/video being taken of your person in public areas during your visit on Ai by estate/event staff and the occasional shutterbug or machinima enthusiast. Chat logs from events may also be recorded for later presentation on the estate blog, we will do our best to inform participants of this at the beginning of the event (Consent is not contingent on this notice however).

Furthermore, it is asked that visitors respect the privacy of residents and visitors to the Artificial Isle estate. Spying and/or the gathering and/or disclosure of private information is strictly prohibited, additionally do not commit acts of subterfuge, propaganda or attempt to undermine the staff of the Artificial Isle estate. Respect the privacy of people’s homes by not entering their houses without first receiving an invitation. If a resident asks you to leave their private area please comply within a reasonable time frame, failing to do so may lead to your banning from that tenants parcel and if harassment continues the entire estate (We understand accidents happen, but we do take our residents privacy seriously).

    ➥ Sandbox / Selling

The Artificial Isle estate is not a sandbox, while the creation of objects is widely allowed abuse of this convenience will not be tolerated. A small bit of work, out of the way of others for a limited time (Such as adjustment of an item or something brief) is allowed but not full scale building and certainly not impeding access for others. Additionally, commerce, except by authorized tenants is strictly forbidden and is a ban worthy offense. Do not attempt to sell your gear in the Artificial Isle estate without prior consent from the management or a lease allowing such action.

    ❖ About Artificial Isle

Artificial Isle is set in a modern day to near future timeline. There are old world and science fiction elements throughout the estate. It is easiest to think of Ai as a old city that has elements from the past alongside constructions and works from the present day as well as scientific experiments leading into tomorrow. Visitors are not required to dress in any period attire or role play to a certain era or setting unless an event specifically calls for it (And then only for the duration of that event), though the permanent builds of residents are subject to theme considerations as explained in the various lease terms.

    ➥ Theatrical Lore

Artificial Isle, and The Isle of Lilliput more specifically, have a rich history of lore that is available for viewing on the estate web site (www.artificialisle.com). The story explains the history of Arthur Gregory and how he came to find Lilliput, to be later colonized by his son and grow into what it is today. The story is deliberately designed to leave loose ends that one can develop their own non-canon stories from, in fact you can submit your written stories to the site and we just might publish them alongside the official canon. The story is too long to reprint here, being several chapters in length, so we hope you’ll take a look at it on our site and get involved in basing your own stories off of it.

    ➥ Factual History

Founded on January 19th 2006 in the mainland region of Seonhan (Within convenient sailing distance of the then popular Sanchon sailing area), Artificial Isle has changed a great deal over the years. Born out of an idea in There.Com as a place in a beautiful setting for people to gather and hold events , it has since been host to many events in Second Life including most notably several Second Conventions and SLCC 2007, as well as charity events, weddings, and the usual affair of live music and more. Eventually joining the United Sailing Sims in May of 2008. The estate has grown from 1/4 region on the mainland to 9 regions and growing, with the expansive Isle of Lilliput in its’ southern hemisphere, and regular ironclad and airplane events held weekly. As of January 2009 Artificial Isle is located in the center of the United Sailing Sims, surrounded by Linden Lab’s Blake Sea to the west and north, and more popular than ever with a diverse range of visitors from a multitude of communities throughout Second Life.

    ❖Events & Gatherings

In any event, for high region performance it is best if participants and audience members detach all unneeded scripted items (Not merely deactivate them). Particularly AOs, radars and etc, this will greatly enhance the performance of the region for the nights activities. Please also follow the guides and requests set out by the event organizer as best you can, they are working to make the event as enjoyable as possible for all. If you have concerns; bring it up with the event organizer privately, but understand that your issue may not be able to be addressed right away.

Though unauthorized solicitation is stated elsewhere as not being tolerated on the Ai estate, this is particularly true at events. Do not use events at Artificial Isle for unauthorized solicitation, soap boxing, politicizing, proselytizing, spreading gossip, propaganda or etc; speak with management if you would like to have a message delivered at an event on your behalf. If you would like to run your own event at one of the many venues in Artificial Isle, please contact us so that we can discuss the where, how and when…

    ➥ General Events

Artificial Isle is host to a diverse range of events, from fashion shows, to presentations, to conferences and conventions, naval and air combat, sumo wrestling, parades, theatrical events and more. With such diverse events can come diverse guidelines for participants and visitors, more than could possibly be expressed here. The event organizers will express these guidelines to participants and observers, and they should be followed to the best of one’s ability. Still there are some basic principles one can keep in mind for any event that occurs in Artificial Isle.

✓ Stay in designated areas for the event, either as a participant or an observer.
✓ Observe and follow the guidelines/requests of the event organizer.
    ✓ Treat other participants/attendants respectfully.

✗ Do not impede the progress of the event or block access/view for others.
✗ Do not assume authority on behalf of or instead of the event organizer.
✗ Do not challenge the event organizer or otherwise disrupt the event.
✗ Do not spam the audience with gestures or inappropriate chatter.
✗ Do not incite the crowd or attempt to spread gossip/rumors.
✗ Do not use events as a political and/or advertising platform.

These points are all very common sense and should not need to be pointed out, use your best judgment and one should be fine. We want everyone to be able to enjoy these events together, we don’t want to exclude people, but neither will we allow some to spoil the event for their own enjoyment.

    ➥ Combat Events

These guidelines go above and beyond the general event guidelines and are designed to facilitate a fun and successful combat event that many people can take advantage of with common-sense rules and thoughtful enforcement. It is not our wish to become “rule Nazis” or to make things so structured that they become impossible to enjoy. We ask that one exercise common sense, follow these guidelines and not constantly push boundaries as that is not a game we are willing to play. An individual will be on hand at official events to oversee, interpret and enforce these guidelines as best for the group as well as run the event in question.

    • Non-combatants need to stay in designated viewing areas and not interfere with those engaged in combat. Should an individual engaged in combat get knocked out via their destruction in the game, they automatically become a non-combatant until the next round and must move to a viewing area.
    • Sportsmanlike conduct is a must, while good natured ribbing is allowed and even encouraged, malicious and abusive remarks will not be tolerated. What constitutes fun and humor and what abuse is at the discretion of the event organizer who has the ability to enforce compliance via the power to eject, and/or ban an individual from the area if the situation calls for it, after having been given fair warning.

    Examples of Unsportsmanlike behavior

✗ Re-engaging in combat before the round has ended and after having been knocked out.
✗ Shooting, blocking, or otherwise disrupting the event for ongoing participants.
✗ Using weapons or implements not authorized for use in the event.
✗ Using gimped or otherwise overpowered vehicles and weapons.
✗ Hovering over, or “editing” a vehicle involved in the event.
✗ Tantrums, argumentative, or otherwise childish behavior.

    • Respect the combat area, and combat time frames. Your event organizer will inform the group where combat may occur and at what time combat may begin as well as when it must end. Do not engage in combat outside the combat zone and should an organizer tell you to hold fire, then do so immediately (Regardless of what others may be doing).
    • Some events are more structured than others (Such as scenario driven events), if so the event organizer will inform the participants and the non-combatants of those guidelines which go on top of and/or supersede those listed here (These may include no flying, traversing from one point to another, or etc). Please stay within the guidelines of these more structured events as they are planned out in advance to serve a larger purpose than simply what happens on one particular night.
    • Some events will have team leaders, in such situations make sure you know which team you’re on and you are properly identifying that to others (Such as wearing the team colors or flag). Also be sure to follow the instructions of your assigned team leader to the best of your ability (Should you have one).
    • If you have a problem with an event, or a participant’s behavior in an event please inform the event organizer. Though also please understand that we may be unable to address your issue until after the night’s event has come to a close.

Our goal is to have a fun and relaxed event, be it structured or unstructured that people will remember and want to come back to. We hope that you can join us in this desire within these guidelines.

    ❖ Management

The following terms define interaction with and interpretation of the rules of the Artificial Isle estate by management. Understand that staff have the right to exercise their judgment in matters beyond the scope of this document if needed.

    ➥ Photography & Filming

Permission is granted for visitors to photograph and/or film on and what can be seen from the public areas of the Artificial Isle estate, if you wish to shoot inside a resident’s private living area please first get permission from them. Attribution to Artificial Isle is appreciated (Via a SLURL or link to www.artificialisle.com) but not required. Do not however represent oneself as Artificial Isle, that is to say do not give the impression that one is an official representative of the Artificial Isle estate but merely using Ai as a backdrop. If you would like more access or the ability to set out some items for a shoot, please contact management so we can arrange what is needed for your project.

    ➥ The “What If?” Clause

Sometimes things go wrong, ending up beyond our control. In such situations management will do its’ best to adjust to the situation and try to come up with as amicable a solution for all involved as possible. Since unknown matters are just that, communication with management to come to an acceptable solution is welcome and even encouraged.

    ➥ Right Of Refusal

The management of Artificial Isle reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service or revoke visitation rights to any individual for any reason or no reason. Refunds for any costs to the individual to whom service is being refused will be given in a timely fashion (Assuming they are paying for a service in the Ai estate). If you feel you were mistakenly or wrongly refused contact management for clarification or to correct the matter.
